Santurce tabs Donta Smith, ex Trotamundos

Cangrejeros de Santurce (BSN) inked experienced 37-year old American (has also Venezuelan passport) 201cm small forward Donta Smith (college: SE Illinois JC). Smith played last summer at Trotamundos in Venezuelan SLB league. He managed to play in three leagues in two countries last year (!!!). In 27 SLB games he recorded 13.4ppg, 5.9rpg, 4.1apg and 1.9spg. Smith helped them to win the league title despite they ended the regular season at the second place. Great year indeed as he was voted to Latinbasket.com All-Venezuelan SLB 2nd Team and League Player of the Week (2 times). The last season he played at Maccabi Haifa in Israeli Winner League where in 13 games he averaged 12.8ppg, 5.5rpg, 4.9apg and 1.5spg. He also played 4 games in Balkan League where he had 8.8ppg, 6.8rpg, 5.3apg and 1.3spg.
In 2004 he was drafted by Atlanta Hawks (NBA) in second round (34th overall). Smith attended Southeastern Illinois College (JUCO) and it will be his 19th (!!!) season in pro basketball.
He is a very experienced player. Smith has quite traveled the world as his pro career brought him to ten different countries on three different continents (Europe, Latin America and of course North America). He has played previously professionally in Australia, Bulgaria, China, Mexico (Fuerza Regia), France (Pau Lacq Orthez and Metropolitans), Israel (Hapoel Jerusalem), Italy (Brindisi), Puerto Rico (Vaqueros, Carolina, Cariduros, Indios and Piratas), Venezuela (Marinos, Espartanos and Bucaneros) and The Basketball Tournament (Team Rondo).
It may be one of last seasons in his extensive career, which he may end at Santurce.
